Little Sichuan Newark Restaurant Review
Posted by admin, October 1st, 2008
Little Sichuan, not to be confused with the one in San Mateo, used to be located in Fremont, but moved to this new larger location and upgraded itself. It is now located in a big strip mall anchored by Ranch 99. This mall has a ton of different restaurants. The old one was decent, so we decided to give the new place a try. We tried them on the weekend, when they have some additional specials.
Decor, Vibe - Typical Chinese restaurant decor, nothing fancy. Lots of families and big groups eating Little Sichuan’s spicy food.

Picks:
Green Onion Pancake ($3.50) was crispy and flavorful, how these crunchy things should be. Excellent but a little greasy and surely will clog arteries. It is amazing how many places cannot get this basic dish right.
Spicy Boiled Fish ($8.50) was a huge bowl full of fish. Not as spicy as it looks. Lots of cabbage, cilantro, scallions. Also available as beef or pork.
Tea Smoked Duck ($8.50 half) was one of the best we had. Heavy smoke flavor, tender meat, not dry, perfect. Also, a large amount for half an order.
Hot Noodles (Dan Dan Mein) with spicy peanut sauce ($5.95) is a classic sichuan dish. Good noodles, but not hand pulled. Great sauce, very little meat. Picture make it look gross, but this tasted pretty good.
Spicy Diced Chicken ($8.50) was a little spicy and also a huge dish. Lots of flavor and zestiness. Also like a variant of Kung Pao Chicken. We accidentally ordered this dish, our intention was to order the dry spicy chicken.
OK:
Dry Cooked String Beans ($6.95) had a good amount of spiciness to it but just was not great. Not crispy and flavorful, yet salty. Just average.
Pork Dumplings ($5.95) were plentiful but very average. We probably should not have ordered dumplings at a Sichuan place.
Shredded Potatoe ($6.95) was pretty expensive for such a simple dish. Not much flavor just a little bit of green onion, but massive quantities.
Pans:
None
Service was pretty bad. It took a year to order, get extra bowls, water, etc. Multiple tables seemed to have the same issue. The food was good and not many similar restaurants are in the vicinity. If we were looking for Sichuan style food in this area, we would definitely come back.
